AU-inspiring moments

The use of gold in cuisine goes back to ancient times; chefs have never been short on ideas for how to incorporate it into their dishes. Catering to those with fancy palates and big wallets, New York’s Industry Kitchen restaurant sprinkled 24kt edible gold leaf on a pizza, along with foie gras and caviar. The price of gilded pie? A mere $2,000.

Braulio Bunay, the executive chef, told Town & Country magazine that he was inspired to create the over-the-top indulgence because of the restaurant’s proximity to the Financial District. ‘It is the epitome of decadence,’ he said.
