In 2016, Mokingran Jewelry Group Co. of China smashed the record for the world’s biggest gold ring, unveiling a whopping 82.2kg (181 pounds) piece made of 24-carat gold.
The ring, created in Changle, Shandong boasted a diameter of 79.28cm. This trumped the previous record holder — the Najmat Taiba (Star of Taiba) — made from 21-carat gold and weighing 64kg (This ring also included more than 5kg of diamonds and other precious stones, as well as 615 Swarovski crystals.) The Mokingran record-breaker cost $547,000 to make in 2000, when gold was priced at about $250 an ounce.
