In 2015, a Dubai-based jewellery company unveiled the world’s longest gold chain, measuring some 5.5km in length and weighing a hefty 240kg. The 22-carat chain, made of more than 4m links, took 100 craftspeople more than 45 days to complete. It is known as the ‘Dubai Celebration Chain’ because it was created to mark the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival. Shoppers were invited to buy sections of the chain ranging from 8g to 26g.
